My two greatest accomplishments are not on my resume. They are my children. If one’s parents are one’s most influential teachers, then I have done quite well. My son, Benjamin, is a kind and sensitive man. He is a fine woodworker, mechanic, and musician. He can fix almost any machine and loves to tinker. This set of STEM skills is finally regaining the status it deserves in our curriculum and in our country. I wish him well in his studies. I am looking for some photos to highlight his work. He is a graduate of the Greenfield Community College STEM Program Class of 2018 and has a BA in Building and Construction Management from UMass, Amherst. I am proud of all he has become. My daughter, Rebecca, is a graduate of Deerfield Academy’s Class of 2014, and Ithaca's Class of 2018. She earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in May 2020 and is working in Dedham, MA. I am extremely proud and dazzled by the exceptional woman she has become.
One family tradition that we have is our annual summer photo on Nantucket. It is important to us to gather a few times each year and this tops our list of favorites. As the kids get older, we know that these times are very precious. Holiday and seasonal traditions keep us close. Our other family tradition is the 4th of July campout.
My husband Vern and I feel lucky to have created a wonderful life together. Our family and many of our friends helped us build our own home. We renovated an old tobacco warehouse in South Deerfield. We have an amazing space to gather with the family and friends who helped make it possible.
My family of origin is spread across the globe. My brother lives in Israel and my sisters and mom are still in New York. My mom's birthday and my niece's wedding brought us together! This doesn't happen often enough anymore.
As a Freshman at Ithaca, Becca became the youngest coach in the NCAAs. Ithaca women's basketball team made it to the round of 16 at the NCAA DIII Tournament. Challenges make us stronger, and Becca rose to the challenge in style.
I love to craft, quilt and sew, although I don't get to do this as often as I'd like to anymore. Someday I will go back to that. I do get to work in my garden. I have done all the hardscape and softscape at our house. There is never enough time to do all that I want, but it is so very fulfilling to work toward that goal every day.
