We are a happy class where exploring and experimenting is encouraged. We try to learn through hands-on activities as much as possible, and by utilizing the vast campus of our school.

Our curriculum follows these excellent educational programs:

  • ELA: Benchmark Universe

  • Math: Eureka Math

  • Social Studies: MyWorld

  • Science: HMH Science

Through these programs, we learn through questioning and discovery. By taking an objective-first approach, the learning activities are rich, integrated and standards-based. Differentiation is at the heart of our lessons so that each student may be working at the ideal level of challenge for them while being pushed to grow and develop.

Students take pride in the neatness of their work, which they are learning to edit and then publish.

Blessed with one device per student, we utilize online programs such as ST Math, Lexia, Writer's Universe, Kids A-Z, Epic, and more.

Mrs. Brennan is our amazing Religion teacher, who also teaches our Social Emotional Learning Platform "Choose Love".

In Second Grade students continue to learn about Jesus, the Church, and more importantly, they prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. We have weekly lessons that are integrated into our Religion curriculum.

We aim to use manipulatives as much as possible to enrich and deepen understanding.

Thanks to the generosity of the PTG we are able to purchase excellent learning tools to broaden the range of learning activites available to us.

Group activities are conducted outside to enable students to learn from one another while ensuring that we remain socially distanced. It also provides students the opportunity to learn how to lead others. We switch group leaders each week.

We enjoy decorating the classroom accoring to the season and holiday.

Our lessons aim to pull from a range of skills to supplement the learning that the programs provide. Such skills include gardening, art, reading, dancing, singing, leading others, and various other skills.

The students presented research projects on Californian National Parks. Their presentations and dioramas were incredible!

To prepare for older grades they are starting to learn note-taking skills while reading. The students particularly enjoy highlighting!

Thank you for joining us on the Virtual Tour of Second Grade!
