MEET THE TEACHER
Classroom Management
We are going to have a fun and great year! I love to celebrate wonderful behavior and hard work. I also believe in having a classroom where every student feels safe, happy, comfortable, and cared for.
Sometimes we make mistakes, and that’s okay because that is how we learn. The first time a rule or procedure is broken, students will receive a reminder of the task or expectation and a verbal warning for a "think lap". After the first reminder, if the behavior continues the student will need to walk a "think lap"/minutes during recess and then discuss their behavior with the teacher. If misbehavior continues, students may be moved to a calm down seat (in our classroom or a neighboring classroom) and fill out a think sheet to be filled out at home, signed, and returned to school the next day. I will communicate with parents so they are aware this happened. In some cases, sitting at a quiet table during lunch may be a consequence. In cases where behavior is extremely repetitive, disruptive to learning, or safety of others, students may need to speak with Mrs. Hickok and/or make a phone call home.
When students are consistently following classroom/school rules, and showing virtuous behavior, they will have the opportunity to help the class earn a reward.
Please, check your child's red folder each night. This is where you will find their homework, graded work, and any important information/forms from the office. Homework will be due the following school day. Also, I recommend using the folder for anything you are sending back to school with your child, such as paperwork or lunch money.

Mass Expectations:
We will attend Mass twice a week, typically on Thursdays and Fridays. Beginning 2nd semester, kindergarten students may choose one of those days to sit with their parent/grandparent who is attending Mass. Because we only go twice a week, we would like students to get into a routine of sitting together while we are all learning our Mass expectations. You as a parent are your child's first teacher. When you attend Mass as a family, please set high expectations for your kindergartener. At school Mass, we expect students to sit/stand/kneel, say prayers and responses as they learn them, and show reverence. Kindergarten students will receive a Mass participation grade.
