Facebook.
Just the word looks menacing. A collection of every possible social media desire we could ever think of all wrapped up in one, ad slinging, algorithm studying, menace.
Or is it?
Nearly everyone you meet is on this social media giant. Its almost impossible to find someone who isn't wrapped up in the glitz and glamour of likes, shares, and friends.
We find ourselves scrolling, comparing our day to our friends' posts, liking new baby pictures and graduation celebrations, sharing recipes and joining your neighbors Pampered Chef at home parties. You think you're connecting when you mark a sad face for your distant friend's post about the death of a family member, or when you 'love' a post about your neighbor's daughter making it into the college of her choice. But pretty soon hours go by, you feel exhausted, grumpy, and you don't understand why.
So why in the world would Facebook be helpful? How could this insanely large, social media wizarding world of computer giants ever help little old me raise my kids to be tech friendly?
Three words: Parent Tech Groups!
These groups have been created to help parents navigate the crazy world that is today and raising our children. Its so hard to be a parent, but its harder to be a kid (Chris Mckenna, PYE)
There are two Facebook groups you can look into and join. They were created with regular parents in mind!
This first group has parents in all walks of life. You can search any topic and you're guaranteed to find an answer!
Right now, parents are posting (some anonymously!) about TikTok, FitBit, iPads, screenshots of various warnings, password information, and so much more!
This group will never judge you for your lack of knowledge or for 'missing' something when raising your kids in today's world. They are filled with parents doing exactly the same thing, at the same time, and hoping for the same support.
This next group is very similar to the first group in that it was created to help parents navigate the digital world.
This group is led by a child protection expert, Elizabeth Milovidov, so you know that information she posts will be backed up by science and years of studies.
In this group, parents can ask questions and get help from other members or the admins of the group. Everyone here is ready to learn and support you in your parenting journey!
Facebook can be many things. And depending on your internet habits, it can be a very strong tool for growth. Consider looking up groups that will help support you on your parenting journey. Find the digital village you need to help raise healthy, happy, empowered kids!
