Alternative Educational models

Hybrid learning model

While reopening with full time face-to-face instruction five days a week would be optimal for student learning, options may vary depending on the status of COVID-19 in our community. If needed, a hybrid learning model would be implemented. The hybrid model would allow for a combination of face-to-face instruction with the classroom teacher and on-line learning with independent practice. This model would aid in reducing the number of students in the classroom and allow for stricter adherence to physical distancing protocols.

The optimal hybrid model for St. Paul School would be a Split Schedule AM/PM.

What it would look like: Students would be divided into two groups—one group attending school in the morning (AM), the other group coming in the afternoon (PM). Each group would receive daily, in-person instruction from the teacher.

Students would participate in online activities or work on independent assignments during the periods that they are not in the school building.

In an effort to address the needs of our essential working parents, a Student Learning Support program would be available to assist students with their work. These groups would be located in additional building areas (e.g., art room, library, daycare building) not utilized by the regular classroom teachers and guided by support staff. Those students not in need of this extra care would be picked up by their parents or caregivers at the appropriate time.

School facilities would be cleaned in between groups to ensure sanitation.

distance learning/independent study

Students who may have unique circumstances, may have been exposed or have tested positive for COVID-19 will be provided with an opportunity for alternative educational arrangements as feasible. Distance Learning or Independent Study will be available and coordinated between the family and the school.

Due to the possibility that students will need to engage in remote or online learning at some point in the school year, St. Paul School will make available devices for students in grades Kindergarten through 6 who do not have reliable access to a computer at home. The parent/student is financially responsible for negligent damages to the device. The dollar amount will be the cost of the parts needed to repair or replace the device. Families will need to ensure a reliable internet connection.
