Technology Coordinator and Grades K-3 Technology Teacher
Hello, my name is Chris Wilhelm and I am a Tech Coordinator and Technology teacher here at St. Paul School. I am a graduate of The Ohio State University where I received my degree in Elementary Education. I have also done post graduate work through Ohio University, Ashland University and Walsh University. I began my teaching career in 1982 at St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Zanesville, Ohio. I taught sixth grade there for 5 years before moving back to the Columbus area. I then secured a position at St. Paul School teaching seventh and eighth grade Math. After seven years in the Junior High, I then moved down to third grade where I taught for nine years. I became one of St. Paul School’s Tech Coordinators in 2002.
As one of the school’s Tech Coordinators, I am responsible for purchasing and maintaining all of the electronic equipment used by the students and staff. I am also responsible for maintaining our Ethernet and WiFi networks.
In addition to my responsibilities as Tech Coordinator, I am also the Technology teacher for the students in kindergarten through second grade. In my kindergarten class, which meets once a week for one semester, we start with the basics of keyboarding and mousing in order to use digital learning tools and resources to create stories while learning to navigate different applications. In my first grade class, which meets once a week for one semester, the students build on their keyboarding skills and expand their use of digital tools and resources to create stories and begin research projects. My second graders, which come to class once a week for one semester, also work on improving their keyboarding skills and are introduced to the Google GSuite for Education tools, such as Google Docs, Google Slides and Google Drive. Using these tools the student create slide presentations, storybooks and research projects. I also collaborate with the K-2 teaching team on project based learning activities by helping the teachers and students with their digital needs..
I enjoy working with the students and staff to improve their learning and working experiences and I am grateful and blessed to be able to do that in such a wonderful school as St. Paul. If you have any questions or need to contact the Technology Department feel free to call the school office or email me at cwilhelm@stpaulk-8.org.
Technology Coordinator and Grades 4-8 Technology Teacher
I began my teaching career at St. Paul in 2000. I taught 5th grade for 14 years then I made the transition to the technology department. I have always had a passion for using technology in meaningful ways within the classroom. I believe that technology can make our lives easier, more efficient, and allow us to be creative in ways never before possible. I also believe technology is not always the answer and I work with the teachers and students to find the correct balance.
I earned my Bachelor Degree from the University of Dayton- Go Flyers! While teaching at St. Paul I received my Masters Degree (focused on Technology Integration) from The Ohio State University. I am a Google Certified Educator and Trainer and I have loved seeing our students use Google tools and Chromebooks to collaborate, communicate, critical think and be creative!
My favorite part of my job, in addition to teaching 3rd and 4th grade technology class, is helping teachers and students solve problems using technology. I love being invited to teach alongside our classroom teachers. Together we work with students while using technology to enhance the lesson.
I work closely with our STEAM coordinator. We facilitate several Code Clubs and a 3D printing Club. We both are constantly learning from and with our St. Paul students. I love that my job is different every day and I love working with our great St. Paul Students.
Please come see me with your Chromebook and Google questions! I look forward to meeting you. ctegeler@stpaulk-8.org
