St. Paul Physical Education Department

St. Paul School offers a full physical education program through grade eight.  The curriculum is implemented from the Catholic Diocese of Columbus.

Our philosophy at St. Paul School is that Catholics believe that life is a gift, and one way to enhance that gift is through physical education. Physical education is an integral part of the total educational program and contributes to the wellness of the whole child- physically, intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, and socially. We provide a continuous developmental program of physical activities that promotes fitness, critical thinking skills, self-confidence and social maturity. The objective of our Physical Education program is to promote the importance of being physically fit and for the students to understand the benefits of lifelong physical activities.

Hello. My name is Ashley Walker and I am the PE/Health teacher for 5-8 grade.  I graduated  from The Ohio State University with a Bachelors in Science in 2000.  My concentration in school was Physical Education, Leisure Management and Health.  I played college soccer, while coaching high school varsity/JV girls soccer and basketball for 9 years.

I enjoy hanging out with my family, friends, going to sporting events and cheering my children on in basketball, golf and volleyball.

I currently reside in Marengo, Ohio with my husband Michael and our three children Michael Dean, Riley, and Jake.

Hello. My name is Steve Gorman and I have been teaching Physical and Health Education since 2021. I graduated from Capital University, majoring in Physical Education, and minors in Health Education, Sports Medicine and Coaching Athletics. I also wrestled and played baseball for the Crusaders. From there I received a master's degree from BGSU, in Human Performance. I completed my doctoral coursework at BGSU and was an adjunct professor for 3 years. Leaving BG, I accepted a position with the USOC through the Ohio Institute of Sports Medicine, as the Director of Human Performance, where I worked with our Olympic and Professional athletes. I continued my professional journey by becoming a Senior Director with the YMCA of Central Ohio, focusing my career on youth obesity and promoting physical activity. In 2021, I leapt at the opportunity to teach physical education within the diocese and am excited to join the St. Paul family!

With my wife Alicia, we live in Delaware, with our 2 "Ram" children, Piper and Mason and our Bassett Hound Archie.

What you should expect from my classroom is an emphasis on being physically active, combined with the philosophy that being active (at whatever level we can achieve) is not only a blessing from God, but a proper complement to our Catholic faith. We will learn about heart rate, basic muscular anatomy and the components of a basic exercise regimen. We will also implement the "Rams Personal Fitness Assessment" two times per year, so that each student can see and articulate their improvement on the metrics we measure. We will measure the number of steps taken per class and also give our students the opportunity to assess how THEY feel about their level of participation at the end of each session.

I will communicate with families at the start of each unit and explain the objectives we are striving to achieve. For further communication, I can be reached at: sgorman@stpaulk-8.org.

Go RAMS!
