Hello, welcome to fifth grade! My name is Angela Mankins and I will be teaching 5th grade language arts, social studies, and religion. I graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. I hold a professional teaching license certified grades K-8. During my teaching career, I have taught preschool and kindergarten. I started at St. Paul's as a long term sub in grades first and third. This will be my sixth year at St. Paul's.
I live in Westerville with my husband, son, and our bagel hound Ginger. My son attends Kent State University and is studying aerospace engineering. I enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with my family.
In ELA class, we will be studying grammar, understanding of figurative language, and vocabulary acquisition. Additionally, we will be reading a variety of literature such as Bud not Buddy and Rules. Students will enhance their writing skills by learning how to write personal narratives, opinion pieces, and informative texts. In addition, students will strengthen their fluency and comprehension skills during small group and whole class participation.
In social studies, fifth graders will learn about the Western Hemisphere including its geographic features, early history, cultural development, and economic change. As part of the economic strand, students will participate in JA Biz Town. A favorite among fifth graders!
In fifth grade, students partake in special events such as DARE, the fifth grade prayer service, and JA Biz Town. This is a year of growth and independence. I am looking forward to working with you and your students and helping them grow in their faith.
