The lessons consists of a week or two of learning about what Creative Play is and the benefits of being able to have autonomy in your own games:
Your lessons will consist of Instant Activity and Skill Based Games. You can cater these to different styles, this is just what we went with. Explain the concepts in these types of games and have kids use any equipment they want to explore creative pathways to create these games and present them to the class after a couple days. I would say 3 days per each theme, with presentations of the third.
Take a couple days to do the gauntlet and have them advance through rounds, 1st round-Instant Activity 2nd round-Skills Based. I find kids love it when there are teacher judges. Judges will be given rubrics and have 1 minute to provide feedback.
Make teams of 4
5 minutes to prepare their game
2 minutes to set up
2 minutes to demonstrate
5-7 minutes for the other classmates to play their game. ( You can adjust these times depending on the length of your class period)
