ART: Jim Denomie's painting-Attack on Fort Snelling Bar and Grill.docx
An interview with Lakota sculptor/artist, Francis Yellow
Francis Yellow is a member of the Native American Lakota tribe. Although primarily a sculptor, Yellow also paints contemporary depictions of classic ledger art. His artistic vision includes the hope that his art will express the humanity of the Lakota People through a metaphoric portrayal of the contemporary Lakota experience. He says his art is "first for the Lakota People, but that all people are naturally drawn to any full and free human expression." A graduate of Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota, Yellow served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam and currently resides in Bonduel, WI. In the 1980s, he received the Crazy Horse Scholarship and Thunderbird Foundation Scholarship.
