The purpose of this course is to develop the physical skills necessary to be successful in many forms of movement in fitness and sport. Course will also focus on knowledge of sport concepts, strategies and appropriate social behaviors in a variety of individual fitness and team sports. Units may include, but are not limited to Fitness, Volleyball, Basketball, Flag and Ultimate Football, Ultimate Soccer, Floor Hockey, Broom Ball, Handball, Tennis, Pickleball, Badminton, Soccer, and Tchoukball.
Strength Training and Fitness

Advanced Strength Training and Fitness

Badminton

This course is designed for students who would like to improve their badminton skills and strategies. A variety of activities promoting conditioning, agility, teamwork and cooperation will be taught throughout the course. The elective focuses on badminton rules, strategies, and the skills needed to participate at a higher level. Be prepared to play badminton for over seventy days in the semester.
Students can keep the racquet or return it (If the racquet is not broken) at the end of the class and be refunded the $15 Racquet Rental Fee.
Cost: $10 Birdie Fee + $15 Racquet Rental/Own.
Racquet and Paddle Sports

Racquet and Paddle Sports is designed to porvide students with the fundamental skills required to participate in and enjoy racquet or apddle sports such as badminton, handball, table tennis, pickleball and tennis. Students will gain an understanding of the rules, etiquette, equipment, strategite, and safety needed to participate in these sports.

This course combines students of all abilities to participate in developmentally appropriate activities including lifetime activities, physical fitness, and sport. Students will work together to increase competence and confidence in a variety of physical activities. Through ongoing leadership opportunities, members of this course will be empowered to help create a more inclusive and accepting school environment for all students.
Leader in Coaching and Officiating

Coaching and Officiating is designed in two parts. The first part introduces the knowledge, skills, coaching techniques and philosophies for being a successful leader on and off the field. The second part will allow students to learn the rules, game play, officiating calls and hand signals as well as the role a sports official plays in maintaining fair play. Sports that could be included depending on student interest and instructor expertise are soccer, basketball, softball/baseball, volleyball, football and swimming Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible for employment with Saint Paul Parks and Recreation.

Good health is not a one-time decision but a series of decisions continuing throughout a lifetime.

Stress Management

Stress Management focuses on the causes and effects of stress from a personal and cognitive perspective. Students will engage in a variety of tools and techniques to identify, prevent, and manage stressors to improve academic success and personal wellness. Strategies for stress management will include meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, mindfulness, life in balance, yoga calm, and more.
