Hmong Level 1 

Course Length:  Two Semesters (Year Long)


This course introduces the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing through thematically designed units. Students will learn the basic Hmong alphabet and phonetics, Hmong grammar, and sentence structure. Themes include identity and self, family, daily and leisure activities, folk stories, and clothing. Students will explore the history, culture, traditions, and beliefs of the Hmong through these thematic units.


For our unit on clothing, we learned how to sing a Hmong folk song (kwv txhiaj) about wearing Hmong clothes to the Hmong New Year. 

                                                                  End of the Year FUN PROJECT:

After learning about the different Hmong Paj Ntaub techniques and analyzing the meaning of Hmong paj ntaub symbols, we learned how to cross-stitch! For many students, this is their first time learning how to sew.
