A fly-in program is an all-expenses-paid (or heavily subsidized) campus visit sponsored by a college or university for prospective students.
These programs are highly selective and are typically designed for high school seniors from underrepresented groups. Because campus visits can be incredibly expensive, colleges use fly-in programs to recruit talented students who might not otherwise have the financial means to visit.
This often includes:
First-generation college students (the first in their family to attend college).
Low-income or lower-resourced students.
Students from underrepresented racial, ethnic, or cultural backgrounds.
Students from rural areas who live far from the campus

Why is it good idea to apply to Fly Ins?
"Fly ins" are a low cost way to visit a college campus- to learn what you like and don't like about a particular school
While not a guarantee of acceptance to the college, attending a fly-in shows the school that you have "demonstrated interest." Plus, admissions officers get to put a face to your application file.
