Covid 19 - Learning from home.
From Wednesday April 15, there will be new learning posted regularly on the class site and on group learning slides. I will also be hosting class google hangout sessions. These will take place every weekday at 10am. It would be fabulous if all children can attend these online sessions - this will help us to keep our social connections and talk about our learning. The children will find the link to our hangout on the class site.
Please remember that the wellbeing of your child/children is the most important thing. With this in mind, I have set up the learning to be flexible, so it can take place at a time that best suits your family. The only time requirement is our 10am meeting online, everything else can be done at a time that suits the learner and their family. I am asking all children to complete 2-3 pages of their Dragon Maths books each week, if they get stuck on their maths or get some answers wrong, they need to let me know on their group slideshow. They will also be writing an explanation piece about their chosen animal at this time. The learners know where to find their learning on our class website.
The children will be showing me their learning in the ways that they usually do - we use a check in sheet along with maths and literacy learning slides. They will also be posting learning to their personal learning blogs. Mrs Waihi, our teacher aide will be commenting regularly on the learner’s blogs.
Please email me: kylie@stpatricksgm.school.nz, or contact me via dojo, if you have any questions. Please also let me know as soon as possible if your child does not have internet access or a device to work from home on.
Stay safe and God bless.
Home Learning Saint Patrick’s School
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Our physical school is closed temporarily, but we will continue to engage students with experiences from our planned learning programme. These experiences will also allow our students to stay connected with their teachers and classmates. This page provides information for everyone as we move to ‘teaching and learning from home’.
Staff are very aware that this is not a ‘normal’ situation, and that learning from home will look different for everyone. Our teaching and learning programme is flexible to allow for whanau and ākonga to work in ways which work for them. Teachers will provide overviews of the learning tasks to be completed and will also provide options for ‘extras’ for those who want to challenge themselves further.
We will be monitoring students’ online presence and evidence of participation in learning activities and tasks, the teacher will contact you if your child is not engaging.
How Do I Find My Child’s Learning?
We will continue to follow our ‘Learn, Create, Share’ kaupapa to support student learning during this time. As always, students in our senior school can access their learning via their class learning site, which is linked via our school website at https://www.stpatricksgm.school.nz/class-learning.
Students in Samaria, Galilee and Bethlehem - your child’s learning activities will be a combination of online (through the site linked above), if you can access it and some forwarded via the class’ Seesaw site. Eden will be Seesaw and hard copies which should arrive in the post.
What will The School Day Look Like?
To maintain a sense of routine, each day your child’s class teacher will begin the day with greetings and a prayer on Google Hangout or Video message . This will take place, or be available at 10.00 - 10 20am each day (except for Capernaum who will be 10.30 - 10.50am). The link for students to connect with their class via Google Hangouts will be published on their class site for older students, and for our younger students we will simply send a short video message via Seesaw.
Teachers will be running ‘online’ class hours between 10am and 12pm, and again from 2:30 - 3:00 on weekdays. Please note this does not mean all students will need to be online in front of a screen for all of this time - your child’s teacher will be available at these times to ‘meet’ together with their class or in groups.
Class teachers will be connecting daily with students via Google Hangouts, pre-recorded videos and sessions, and through the usual platforms such as Google docs, blogs, Seesaw and emails. Teachers will obviously be working outside of these hours too, responding to students’ work, planning sessions, meeting online and organising resources. As per usual teachers will respond to emails and/or Seesaw messages during our normal work hours. Teachers will respond to emails and requests as soon as possible during their working day and we ask you to please be aware that if you send a request in the evening you may not receive a response until the following working day. Each class's Teacher Aide will also be responding to the students' work.
Questions, Comments, Feedback?
As always if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact your child’s class teacher in the first instance. We look forward to connecting with you all again next Wednesday 15 April for the start of Term 2.
We thank you for your ongoing support as we move to this new teaching and learning space. We will continue to keep you informed and updated as this situation evolves. God Bless you and your family.
Thank you.
