3D Scanning

4/3/18

Go to the computer next to the vinyl cutter and open Skanect. Select new. Click Start.

Have a partner click the red circle button to start your scan. Make sure your full body is visible and glowing. SLOWLY turn on the stool, staying in the same position. When finished, have your partner click the button again to stop the scan. An image of you should appear!

Go to Process and click Fill Holes. Usually there is a hole in the scan's head, this will fix that. Don't change any settings, just hit Run. The fixed scan is on the right, with the hole in the head removed.

4/6/18

Open up netfabb Basic on your personal computer. A box will pop up. Select "I accept the terms of usage," then wait 10 seconds for the "later" option to glow. Click "Later."

Go to "Project" and select Open. Choose your file from the flash drive. Your scan should appear.

First we need to get rid of all this nasty stuff at the bottom of the figure. Click <cutting disabled> and select "Cut only selected parts" instead. Now, drag the Z slider a bit and click "Execute Cut." A plane should appear on the figure

To adjust the positioning of the cut, change the "Move parallel" to 0.01mm. Select the + or - buttons to move the plane up and down. When you are ready, select Cut. A line will appear on the figure where the cut was made.

Select the bottom half of the figure and click the delete key on your computer. The bottom should be removed.

There's still a hole on the bottom, so I cut it off a teensy bit more to remove it, using the same process as before.

Now we need to fix up the head. Click the red plus sign. This is the repair tool. Select triangles on the head and they will turn green. Right click and select "Remove selected triangles."

Remove a medium section of triangles and they will make a red hole. Right click when there are NO triangles selected and choose "Close all holes." this should improve the divot in the head a bit.

Continue this process multiple times to shape out the head a bit better. IT WILL NOT BE PERFECT, AND THAT'S OKAY!

Now it is finished. To get it in the right format for 3D printing, select the part so it glows green. Go to part, Export part, and select as STL.

To 3D print the piece, follow the steps from the 3D Design page. It is finished!! This project was a success.
