Welcome to our new website! The goal of the website is to be the public face for the Storied-Tellers Writing Group so that people can get a sneak peek of what we're about. It's also a place to share writing resources, spotlight our member's accomplishments, and show our calendar of upcoming events.
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)
Even though the NaNoWriMo nonprofit is out of commission the celebration of National Novel Writing Month and it's challenge to write 50,000 words in a month isn't going anywhere. It's a great opportunity to push ourselves and encourage each other into more regular/productive writing habits. Keeping that in mind, we will be having extra virtual sessions to promote NaNoWriMo. These sessions are not only open to the group but to the general public. I encourage everyone to pass along the information.
First and foremost this is about challenging yourself. You are trying to push yourself into doing more writing than you have been doing so if 50,000 words looks like climbing Everest after you just learned how to walk; take a hard look a what your monthly word count is and decide on a reasonable goal that will make you stretch a little. (I'm willing to help you come up with number that works for you.)
We will be starting with a virtual prep session on Oct. 27th. It will run from 6pm to 7pm and will be focused on mental prep, brainstorming, summarizing, and outlining in preparation for the challenge.
The Challenge itself starts on Nov. 1st and runs through Nov. 30th. There will be 5 check-in/writing sprint sessions that are open to the public. (Nov. 3rd - 6pm, 10th - 6pm, 17th - 6pm, 24th - 6pm, 30th - 7:30pm) We will start each session checking in with each other on how we are doing. Next, I'll set a timer for one hour and we'll try to write as many words as we can in that time. At the end of that hour, I'll call time and everyone will tell me their word count for the hour as well as their running total for the month. I'm asking that anyone that's participating message me with their final numbers at the end of the month. I want have an awards page with the Highest Hourly Word Count, Highest Word Count for the Month, Most Progress, and Best Cheerleader.
There is also a virtual recap session scheduled for Dec. 2nd at 6pm to go over everyone's experiences and discuss any suggestions for next year. If you are interested in participating contact us through this site or through Facebook you don't have to be a member to join one or all of the sessions.
