Mehmet Yesiltas Department of Geosciences, Stony Brook University
I am a researcher in the Department of Geosciences at Stony Brook University, with interests spanning planetary science, spectroscopy, and the characterization of extraterrestrial materials. My research uses techniques including micron- and nano-scale infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and electron microscopy to investigate the mineralogy, organic matter, and alteration histories of meteorites and returned asteroid samples.
My work focuses on understanding the physical and chemical processes that shaped primitive Solar System materials and what they can reveal about the formation, evolution, chemical environments, and preservation of organic compounds, relevant to the origin of life.
