What is the mechanical energy transfer?
The change of energy from one form to another. According to the first law of thermodynamics, energy can be neither created nor destroyed. Energy is not created or destroyed but merely changes forms, being transferred from potential to kinetic to thermal energy (Britannica, 2025).
the energy of motion
- the motion of a falling raindrop
- vibration or rotation of air molecules
- flowing river water
Energy that hasn’t yet been used-stored energy
- Gravitational Potential Energy-Gravitational potential energy is the energy stored in an object
- Chemical Energy-A form of potential energy stored in molecular bonds
A form of potential energy stored in molecular bonds
internal energy present in a system in a state of thermodynamic equilibrium by virtue of its temperature.
How can they interact?
Chemical energy from food(potential energy) → converted into kinetic energy
The greater the rate of vibration or rotation(Kinetic energy), the higher the temperature of the substance(Thermal energy)
The 1st law of thermodynamics: Energy is neither created nor destroyed.
