Team

Qingyun Li (PI)

Qingyun is the Principal Investigator of the Energy and Environmental Geochemistry Laboratory in the Department of Geosciences at Stony Brook University.  She's a geochemist caring about energy and the environment. Her group studies water-rock interactions in subsurface geotechnical systems and soil/ groundwater remediation.

Brooke Peritore

Brooke started her PhD journey in Fall 2022. She worked Dr. E. Troy Rasbury for her BS and MS research and developed strong interest in environmental geochemistry. She is now exploring geochemical tools to remove contaminants from wastewater. Brooke is also actively involved in outreach programs.

Lavish Arya

Lavish completed his BS-MS dual degree with a major in geosciences and a minor in chemistry from Indian Instutute of Science Education and Resarch (IISER) Kolkata, India, in 2023. He joined our group in Fall 2023 as a PhD student. His research interests include anthropogenic contaminant remediation and geological CO2 storage in rocks.

Alumni

Vanessa Alfonso - Vanessa holds a BS in Computer Science from St.John’s University and a MS in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Brooklyn College, CUNY.  She worked with us as a PhD student in Fall 2023 on lithium carbonate and phosphate precipitation.

Naqibul Talukder - Naqibul worked with us in Fall 2023 as an undergraduate intern on lithium mineral precipitation mentored by Vanessa Alfonso.

Katie Ng - Katie worked with us as a high schooler in the Summer of 2023 on lithium carbonate precipitation.

Kaycee Gracia - Kaycee worked with us as an undergraduate intern student in Spring 2023. She has an extensive background in horse training and world level competition, spending several years as Captain of USA's Paso Fino Team. She worked on mineral scale formation in subsurface.

Christopher Rooney - Christopher holds a BS in Chemistry and an MS in Geosciences with a concentration in hydrology.  He worked on underground H2 storage and microbial included carbonate formation in Fall 2022 and continued to work on the hydrogen project for another year to complete a comprehensive journal publication.

Yingying Xu - Yingying visited our group from 06/01/2022 to 06/01/2023 as a PhD student at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her research was on chemo-mechanical alterations in shale during hydraulic fracturing.
