I am excited to share that in the summer of 2023 and 2022 I was offered a position of the prestigious Garcia REU program at Stony Brook University. This program allows undergraduate students the opportunity to tutor and uplift high school students on the techniques and application of research. As one of the tutors I was able to enhance my leadership skills as I let my students on a study of the effects of nanoparticles of skin cells.Â
In the pursuit of my medical career, I am proud to say that I was given the opportunity to shadow Dr.Lilker a podiatrist that operates in the heart of New York City. Through his tutelage I was able to better understand the daily life of a doctor at busy private practice. I was able to expand my patient interaction skill while also learning the highly involved business aspect of the medical field. Finally, I was able to better understand the demand of a doctor and how much time and effort is given to the medical field.
Along with academic, as a person I place a strong value on not only my mental health but physical health too. Incorporating this idea, I have been a member of Stony Brook Basketball intermural league. As a member I have grown as a team member working with other with the common goal to win. Basketball also has acted as a great stress reliever for me in my academic career while helping me upkeep my physical health.
As of September 2023, I am proud to say my father and I have acquired licenses to become motorcycle drivers. As a hobby, my father and I have spent many hours practicing and refining our motorcycle skills. This activity has been a bonding and stress relief for me, and I will cherish the time I spent with my father and this craft. Being able to drive a motorcycle and perform mechanical work has taught me to sharpen my situational awareness and improve my dexterity. I plan to apply some of these skills to become a medical surgeon.
