Summer 2022

We had a great time working with our two REU students this summer and an even greater time celebrating their accomplishments with the group. Thank you, Abigail Holmes and Nadine Simprevil for all your hard work!

Thanks to group alum James Breton for this tweet during #BlackinChemWeek! We are very honored. We strive to create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for our researchers.

Group alum Dr. Amanda Carr, currently at Argonne National Laboratory, was selected as a 2021 Emerging Leader in Condensed Matter Physics

We are so excited to have Shaveen join our group this year! Welcome, Shaveen! (January 24, 2022)

June 2021: Theory and Applications of Colloidal Solution and Rheology, 4th edition, edited by Norm Wagner and Jan Mewis, has been published by Cambridge University Press. Surita and group alum Wendy Hom contributed a chapter on "Biocolloid Rheology," which includes some work of current and previous group members Praveen Sharma, Sarvesh Agrawal, Joe White, Suan Quah, and Xuechen Yin. • Xuechen received the Chemistry Award for Excellence in Doctoral Research! (April 8, 2021)

  • Weiping successfully defended his PhD! Congratulations, Dr. Liu! (March 19, 2021)

  • Weiping's XPCS paper has just been accepted to ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces! We are excited to have another XPCS-microrheology paper out! Thank you to all who contributed to this work, including Bing, Xuechen, and the scientists from BNL and ORNL. (March 1, 2021)

June 2021: Bing's paper in collaboration with the Chen-Wiegart group is now published in Applied Materials. Learn more

May 2021: Jiachun's recent work on perfluorocarbon emulsions has been published in Colloids and Surface B! Learn more

June 2020: Surita is named a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the organization's highest grade of membership, as well as a fellow of the Society of Rheology!

March 2020: Surita is elected to the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineers (AIMBE) College of Fellows, for her "impactful work on the nanostructure and mechanics of soft biomaterials, and advocacy for women and underrepresented groups in engineering." Fellows are nominated by peers and voted on by members, and are expected to represent the top 2% of the medical and biological engineering community.

March 2021: Please join us in congratulating Xuechen, whose SANS studies have just been accepted to Polymer. Bing and Suan assisted with these experiments. It was a fun trip down to Oak Ridge for all of us - a real bonding experience! Learn more
