What is it?
Tidal solutions use the predictable low tides and high tides to generate power during the shift between the two. This section will cover 3 tidal solutions.
Tidal Barrages
Is a dam built across the entrance of a river or bay where the tides come in and out. When the tide comes in, water flows into the area behind the dam. When the tide goes out, the dam closes the gates to keep the water in. Then, the water is released through turbines, which make electricity.
Tidal Fences
It is a row of vertical turbines placed in the water. When the tide goes in and out, the water moves through the turbines, making them spin and generate electricity.
Tidal Turbines
Is a device placed on the seabed that uses the movement of ocean water caused by tides to generate electricity. As water flows in and out with the tides, it pushes against the blades of the turbine. This movement causes the blades to spin, which turns a generator and produces electricity.
