Curriculum

For a brief overview of the core curriculum, please read below:

English Language Arts:

  • This year we will explore the exciting world of English Language Arts. You will practice and strengthen your literary, writing, phonemic, vocabulary, grammatical, critical thinking, and communication skills. ELA is a subject that requires hard work, dedication, creativity, imagination, and more! You will be a reader as well as a writer in ELA. You will get a chance to see great works of writing and create your own!

Math:

  • This year you will be using what you already know to further your knowledge about math and how it is used in the world around us. We will explore important topics such as place value, decimals, fractions, measurement, and geometry. We will also practice the four major operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) in a variety of ways that will help with real world skills. I am very excited for you all to become magnificent mathematicians!

Science

  • In 5th grade, you will be learning about many exciting topics from plant and animal cells, to the Earth and its place in the universe, and more! This year you will feel like real scientists. You will be questioning, researching, and analyzing data through in-class activities and experiments. Throughout the year we will see the strong relationship between science and math, and how they are used hand-in-hand. I can't wait for you to explore and investigate everything that is in store for us!

Social Studies:

  • The exciting world of social studies awaits you, as we dive into interesting topics and study the world around us! Throughout your 5th grade year, social studies helps you build cultural literacy and understand the historical underpinnings of our country! Some of our units of study include colonization, slavery, American Revolution, founding documents, westward expansion, Civil War, Civil Rights, and more! I’m so excited for you to learn, investigate, and and review key concepts is this captivating subject!

Family Guides
