Hello and Welcome!
My name is Logan (Dr. K in the classroom) and I am a developmental psychologist and Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology at St. Olaf College. This webpage serves as a platform for me to share about current teaching and research activities. I welcome you to click around, read about my ongoing efforts, and reach out if you have any questions, or are interested in collaboration.
Professional Background
My belief in the transformative power of a liberal arts education began as an undergraduate student at Luther College. There, I encountered a love of research through work in the labs of Drs. Toussaint and Njus, and knew that I had found my vocation. That experience led me to pursue graduate training at Kent State University, where I earned my M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychological Science (developmental concentration). My dissertation, completed in 2021, examined links between seven interpersonal competencies and friendship quality in emerging adulthood.
Upon graduation, I joined the faculty at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO, as an Assistant Professor of Psychology. Over the next four years, I deepened my commitment to the liberal arts, learning to prioritize active learning strategies, universal design, and inclusive pedagogy. I also had the pleasure of mentoring an incredible team of undergraduate researchers, many of whom took individual projects to regional and national conferences. In the Spring of 2025, I was honored to earn tenure and promotion to Associate Professor. I am very proud of this achievement and am thankful to have been part of a community of colleagues that made the climb to tenure (dare I say...) fun!
Out of a desire to be closer to family and to join a community that prioritizes excellence in the liberal arts and offers expansive support for undergraduate research, I accepted a Visiting Assistant Professor position at St. Olaf College that same Spring. Here, I am teaching courses in developmental psychology and close relationships while also directing the Studying Emotional Connections and Understanding Relationship Experiences (SECURE) Lab. I am thrilled to be part of the St. Olaf community and to have the opportunity to extend the transformative liberal arts and mentored research experiences that shaped me as an undergraduate to the next generation of psychological scientists.
