Josephine was born on June 3, 1906 in St. Louis Missouri to her mom Carrie McDonald and her dad Eddie Carson, but Eddie left shortly after she was born. Joesphine's mom remarried and had more kids. To help support her family in poverty she took up a job for wealthy families at just the age of eight. She was mistreated by the families. When Josephine was 13 she ran away from home. To make money she found a job as a waitress at a club where she met and married Willie Wells at just 13!!! But their marriage lasted less than a year.
Josephine Baker didn't go to school until she was 10 because at the age of eight she had to take up a job from rich families to help support her family. And at the age of 12 she dropped out of school. Â
