Course Description
Creative Writing is a course designed to give students instruction and practice in writing the four major genres of literature: Creative Nonfiction, Fiction, Poetry and Drama. Through guided exercises and workshops, students will develop drafts that will be taken through the stages of writing which include drafting, revision, critique and publishing. One of the major goals of this class is to develop a love of writing, reading, and literature that comes from a technical understanding of the form.
Students will:
Understand the elements of various genres of literature
Complete pre-writing assignments and journal entries that will help develop and inspire writing
Analyze and critique professional writers’ use of literary elements, word choice, style and content.
Write original pieces inspired by literary models and examples
Use their Writer’s Notebook as a place to record ideas and explore subjects.
