Her name was Elizabeth Jane Cochran otherwise known as Nellie Bly
Born in Cochran Mill, Pennsylvania
She was a famous journalist and went undercover at a mental health asylum
May 5, 1864 - January 27, 1922
Childhood and Education
At the age of 6 her father died unexpectedly
Nellie's nickname was Pink
Her family was rich until her father died
Her family wasn't abled to keep their land
Nellie was the youngest of 14 siblings
Went to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania at the age of 15 but sadly had to drop out in 1897 due to her family's lack of money
In 1800, Nellie and her family moved to Allegheny City, Pennsylvania
After dropping out of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, she had to help out her mother at home
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
In 1988 she won the National Women's Hall of Fame award
She invented stackable garbage cans in 1902
Most famous American woman reporter in the 1800's for going to mental health insane asylum
She invented oil drums in 1905
She's traveled around the world such as, France, England, Italy, Japan, etc just in 72 days
She's reported in many different countries and continents
She helped normalize women in journalism
Later Years
She toured America as a lecturerย
She decided to go back to journalism in 1911
She married a man named Robert Seaman
She died January 27, 1922 due to pneumonia
