After you meet with the residents individually to gather information, you will then e-mail them to schedule a mediation.
Hello, I am _________ the ________from EOF Summer Academy.

If you need assistance at any time, please utilize the resources below.

1) Introduction- state who you are and your role
2) Setting Ground Rules and Expectations
a. Use appropriate language (no profanity)
b. Participate and actively engage in mediation (remind them you are not there to solve their problem, just facilitate).
c. Use “I” statements
d. Time limit- 1 hour
e. Listening and not just hearing
f. Remind them that switching rooms may not be an immediate option and that regardless, they will have to live with people in the future and Must develop strategies to live with people now.
3) Ask them if they have any expectations for us as facilitators.
4) Allow each resident to take turns speaking.
5) Make sure they do not interrupt: If they want to say something, they can write it on a sheet of paper and say what they wanted to say during their turn.
6) Discuss the root of the problem (ie; communication, respect, etc.)
7) Come up with SMART goals (specific, measurable attainable, relevant, agreement)
8) Revisit roommate agreement
9) Conclude mediation and ask them if they have any questions
