STREAM Day
STREAM's holistic approach to teaching is designed to increase student engagement by providing real-world context to core disciplines. Our student-centered, inquiry-based teaching methods allow for the meaningful application of each discipline to solve authentic problems using an assortment of thinking strategies.
Assessed Science Standards (NextGenSci)
4-PS3-4 Energy
Apply scientific ideas to design, test, and refine a device that converts energy from one form to another.
Assessed Arts Standards (NCAS)
VA: Cr3.1.4a
Revise artwork in progress on the basis of insights gained through peer discussion.
Assessed Technology Standards (ISTE)
ISTE 4 Innovative Designer
[b.] Students develop, test and refine prototypes as part of a cyclical design process.
The 4th-grade Weather Energy project will build on students' previous experiences with the Engineering Design Process to solve complicated design problems. Each student is required to [ASK] themselves, what individual design problems they will face while creating an artwork that imitates weather. One problem that all students will face, however, is how to create and incorporate a working circuit into the art installation design model.
One important goal of our STREAM program is to encourage creative risks and celebrate failure. As such, Art students will be assessed on their application of the Engineering Design Process and not on the success of the final prototype.
Similarly, in Science, students will be assessed on their application of scientific ideas to design, test, and refine a device that converts energy from one form to another.
Apply scientific ideas to design, test, and refine a device that converts energy from one form to another.
Fossil, wind, water, and solar energy producers all offer STEM job opportunities for those ready to fuel the future in these energy careers.
Religion journal writing prompt: "Just as the sun provides energy to the Earth so that plants and animals can grow and live, how does God provide for our needs so that we can grow in the promise of His everlasting life."
Students utilize the ‘Engineering Design Process' to create an artistic solution to the essential question: How can I design art that imitates the weather?
BIG IDEAS
Weather is affected by the sun’s energy. Energy can be transferred in various ways and between objects.
Artists can use different forms of energy to design artworks that imitate the weather.
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
What is the relationship between energy and weather?
How do artists and designers utilize energy in the creation of works that imitate the weather by engaging the 5 senses?
How does God provide for our needs so that we can grow in the promise of His everlasting life
