STREAM Day
The first step in helping students know what they want to be when they grow up is helping them find out what careers exist! This lesson allows students to explore energy-related Technology and Engineering careers that exist today and learn about the likelihood of those jobs being eliminated by artificial intelligence (AI). The students will describe one engineer career in detail. They are introduced to the responsibilities, rewards, and challenges of various STEM jobs. The kids will compile their research in a graphic organizer, and then apply what they have learned to complete a job application.
After completing the research and job application, students will be given a challenge relevant to their STEM job. The kids will learn that there's a series of steps that all engineers follow when they're trying to solve a problem. This process is called "The Engineering Design Process".

Students are given the task to research and build a bridge.
Students are given the challenge to make a moving car with cardboard, straws, balloons and other materials. The car must move at least 2 feet.
Students were given the challenge of programming the "Dash" robot to make a soccer goal.
Students were given the challenge of building a machine that can fly from one end of the classroom to the other side.
Students are challenged to create the two basic types of electric circuits, series and parallel circuits.
Students are challenged to create a solution to put out the forest fires in California.
