Influenza (Influenza virus)

Symptoms

Chills, body ache, headache, fever, and sore throat; followed by a cough, runny nose and possibly stomach ache.

Incubation Period

24- 72 hours

Mode of Transmission & Communicability

The virus is spread by droplets expelled from sneezing or coughing of infected persons. Communicable 24 hours before the onset of symptoms and until all symptoms subside. Vaccines reduce the incidence of infection.

School Action

1. Exclude from school until 24 hours after temperature returns to normal, symptoms subside and the child is able to participate in regular school activities.
