Proposal
For Hydropower to replace fossil fuels (an energy source that would be very difficult to remove) understanding of Hydropower’s benefits is necessary. This is why I chose to make a model of a hydropower plant as my project, so that I can showcase the benefits of Hydropower and its strengths compared to fossil fuels. On the presentation day, I will be able to point to a specific part of the model and explain how it works and how it contributes to the overall creation of energy.
Project Research Questions
How does Hydropower work?
Hydropower generates energy through water - water, typically from a river or dam, is run through a turbine that’s connected to a generator. This generator has a spinning magnet inside a coil of wire - after the spinning of the turbine causes the magnet to move, an electrical current is created. This is a process called electromagnetic induction, and it does not harm the environment in any way (unlike burning fossil fuels) while still creating energy. Hydropower is also a renewable energy source, meaning we will always be able to generate energy through its process (because we'll never run out of water). Both of these are crucial, as the current methods of creating energy (fossil fuels) harm the environment heavily and will run out eventually.
