Background

Deep sea mining is the topic Sam and I chose for DEEP. We found it very interesting due to the industry being very new. We found this to be an exciting opportunity as both a lot of good and harm can come out of it. But from our extensive research we realized that thwe latter of these two was the most prominent. Although deep sea mining can be useful at times Sam and I found that it is not worth the sacrifice we have to make for deep sea mining to actually be effective.

Now onto a brief project overview (explored more on the "Project" page).  For our project we aimed to spread as much awarness on the issue of deep sea mining. Unfortunatley due to our limited recources we hit a wall in what to do. This was until we had the idea to write a newspaper article on how and why deep sea mining is harmful. We found this perfect because it was simple enough for us to do but also (if all went to plan) had the possibility to spread our concerns throughout the city of Santa Monica.

Research & Topic Questions

In our campaign we also plan to answer our research questions. These questions include:

1. What are the main issues that deep sea mining is causing on marine life? 

2. What are the main issues that deep sea mining is causing on marine habitats? 

3. What area of the ocean is being most affected or mined in by deep sea mining machines?
