Carbon Pollution

What is Carbon Pollution?

Carbon pollution is the emissions of carbon into the atmoshere. The carbon released combines with the oxygen in the air and creates CO2. This increase is caused by the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil.

How does Carbon Pollution effect the ocean?

Carbon pollution slows the ocean's ability to absorb carbon, increases the ocean's acidity, and harms marine life. The ocean has consumed about 29% of carbon emissions and as a result, the surface waters are 30% more acidic than they were at the start of the industrial era.
