Lab Report

Questions:

• What is the effect of a decreasing pH level caused by different sour candies on elodea?

• How will the elodea react when it is met with an abnormally acidic environment?

• Will we be able to see either a statistical or visual difference in the elodea in the acidic environment in contrast to the elodea in the tube with the normal content elodea grows in?

• Will the elodea survive in this acidic environment or will the elodea die?

Variables: 

• pH levels

• Color of elodea 

• Size of elodea 

• Liveliness of elodea 

• Amount of water per tube 

• Amount of elodea per tube 

Materials:

• four tubes 

• Sour Patch Kids

• Sour Skittles 

• Pop Rocks 

• Elodea 

• Water 

• Scale (to measure OZ of water)

• Microscope

Results:

• Our hypothesis was correct: the pigmentation in the elodea went away in the Sour Patch Kids and Sour Skittles tube.

• There was a decreasing pH level in the Sour Patch Kids and Sour Skittles tubes.

• The was little to no change in the pop rocks tube
