HGSCS is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders in the Coptic Orthodox church through our deacon ordination classes designed to prepare candidates for ordination into the ranks of Epsaltos (Chanter) and Anaghonstos (Reader).
Through structured courses, Spiritual mentorship, and practical experience, the school's deacon programs aim to develop spiritually grounded, knowledgeable, and effective leaders for the service in the church. Whether called to lead worship through song or the Word, our deacons are prepared to carry out their services with reverence and devotion.
The Chanter (Epsaltos) plays a vital role in the liturgical life of the church, leading the congregation in hymns, and praises. Our program provides comprehensive training in the rich heritage of Coptic hymnology, ensuring that candidates are well-versed in the melodies, tones, and spiritual significance of the hymns used in the liturgy and other church services.
The Reader (Anaghonstos) is responsible for reading the scriptures during church services. Our program equips candidates with the skills to properly pronounce, understand, and convey the spiritual depth of the Holy Scriptures in Coptic, English, and Arabic (or other languages as needed), fostering a deep connection between the Word of God and the congregation.
