People Culture and Communities ELG Children at the expected level of development will:
- Know some similarities and differences between different religious and cultural communities in this country, drawing on their experiences and what has been read in class.
Term 6
We had a lovely Teddy Bears Picnic with the Mini Vinnies Team.
Mrs Asquith and the Mini Vinnies organised a lovely afternoon for our Foundation Classes.
We had a rainbow treasure hunt, sports activities, a story, made a creative bear and had a drink and a biscuit. Thank you Mrs Asquith and our Mini Vinnies!

Celebration of the Word - Church - the Order of Service and important objects
Celebration of the Word - Saints
Mrs Fishburn and a group of ten children planned their first Celebration of the Word about St. Peter & St. Paul. They sang 'This Little Light of Mine' and played instruments for the gather and prayers.
We understand that being a Christian means belonging to a community of Faith
Mrs Asquith came in to talk about her work in our Parish Community.
We asked her some questions to learn more about her life. She told us we should always work hard, even if we do not get paid. Jesus worked for God too.
We made thank you cards to show her we care and thank her for spreading Good News!
Celebration of the Word - Pentecost
Mrs Fishburn and a group of ten planned their first Celebration of the Word about Pentecost. They were so confident that they went to Mr Downing for a Head Teachers sticker!
We went to church to see all of the important objects . Then, we made our own Altar.

To the Ends of the Earth
I know that Jesus went back to his Father

We listened to the story of the Ascension and talked about how Jesus said good bye to his friends and how they might have felt. We have learnt that Jesus is now in Heaven with his Father, God. He is now the Holy Spirit. We went outside to look at the clouds. We thought about what Heaven might be like. We are going to go to Church on Friday, so we will look at the Tabernacle, this is where the priest keeps the bread (Hosts).
Jesus is still with us. We just can't see him.
I know that Jesus sent His friend - The Holy Spirit.

I wonder why Jesus sent the Holy Spirit?
What did the disciples see and feel?
We made a flame and blew bubbles to share what it would feel like.
I know that the Holy Spirit is our friend.
We made a dove to calm and feel safe.
Mr Downing came in and the children told him about the wind, flames and the dove being a sign of the Holy Spirit.
I know that Jesus' friends spread the Good News about him.
Term 4
Desert to Garden
We are learning about Lent, starting with Shrove Tuesday - Pancakes! Yum Yum.
We had fun making pancakes. Why do we eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday?
Then, We celebrated the start of Lent with our Ash Wednesday service. Each day we will have a mission to spread kindness.
I know that I care for others during Lent
We listened the scripture about when Jesus went into the desert for forty days and forty nights to pray to God. We thought Jesus was very brave being alone but Magnus remembered that the Holy Spirit was with him. The children chose the animals that Jesus might have seen in the desert. Mr Downing sent us a message to ask us to speak to Jesus telling him what we are grateful for. We used the talking cross to take turns to share our thoughts during our circle time.
We made a circle and thought about what we are grateful for. We held the candle and talked to Jesus.

Lent is a time to grow in love for others
We listened the scripture about The Good Samaritan. We talked about helping others. Then, we looked at ways in which we could be like the Good Samaritan. We made a list to help us with our acts of kindness during Lent. During circle time we reflected on what Jesus would want us to do to be like him. We are going to "love everyone with all of our hearts, all of our souls and all of our minds." During circle time we said thank you to God.
Our mission is to care for the dolls and the pets in the vets. We are thinking of others at school and at home.
I know Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey
We acted out the scripture from the bible and talked about how Jesus and the people might be feeling. We shouted "Hosanna!" which means "Save us!".
Holy Week
I know that Jesus died on the cross on Good Friday.
I know that Jesus rose and everyone celebrates
Star Words - tomb, resurrection Heaven, Easter Sunday, new life.
We listened to scripture and made an Easter Garden. We put Jesus inside the tomb and out the stone in front. We know that on Easter Sunday, we will celebrate Jesus going to Heaven to be with God. We call this the Resurrection.

Term 3
Galilee to Jerusalem
I know that Jesus wants us to care for others.
We wrote prayers to say thank you to God for all the people who care for us.
Our mission is to be caring to others.
I know that Jesus wants us to care and share with everyone.
We listened to the story about 'The Big Umbrella' and we learnt the words - love, share, feed and miracle. We learnt that Jesus loves everyone, no matter what they look like, if they are young or old, rich or poor, so we have written these special words under the red umbrella.
I know that Jesus cares for everyone.
We looked at the scripture of 'The Feeding of the Five Thousand' and saw that Jesus performed a miracle so that he could share the food with everyone. We made bread together and shared it during snack time. Ruben dressed up as Jesus to share the bread. We are going to be like Jesus. We will share and care too!
I know that Jesus welcomes everyone.
We walked around school looking for places to pray to Jesus. We found crosses in the Sacred Space and Statues of Jesus and Mary in the garden.
We talked about how the kings saw a star and followed it to visit Jesus. We looked at the special gifts they brought. We shared a circle time to share what we would we would do for Jesus.
I know that Advent is a time to get ready for Christmas.

We lit the first candle and said what we hoped for. We hope that everyone has a safe and happy Christmas.
Then, we lit the second candle and prayed for Peace.
Finally, we lit the third candle which is pink and talked about how we could share joy at school and home.
The last purple will be lit next week to show love. The white candle will be lit on Christmas day to remember Jesus.
I know that shepherds visited Jesus in the stable.

We listened to the next part of the story and used our building blocks to make some houses in Bethlehem.
I know that Mary was chosen by God to be Jesus' mother.
Star Words: Mary, Angel, Promise and Saviour
We listened to the scripture to learn about the Angel coming to Mary. The angel told Mary that God had chosen her to be Jesus' mother. Mary made a promise to God that she would be Jesus' mother because he was the Saviour. We all made an angel.
Our mission / act is to say say our prayers to Jesus everyday.
I know that we are all invited to be part of God's family

The children watched a Baptism and then used the white cloth, candle , oil and Holy water to act out the baptism using Sadie, our doll. Evie shared her experience of her own baptism.
I know that we should look after God's world

The children used real small world resources to act out the story to retell the scripture of The Creation. Ask your child to tell you what happened. Can they remember what God made and what he said to Adam and Eve?
Our mission / act is to follow rules to stay safe at home, in our school and our community.

We started by singing the songs, 'If I was a butterfly' and 'He's got the whole world in his hands.' Then, we sequenced The Creation story using the pictures and numbers. After thinking about what wonderful things we can do, we made a circle map.
Our mission/ Act is to show God how much we love him by listening to our trusted adults and making good choices at home and school.
I know we should look after ourselves and others.
Star Words: creation, care, love, family and Sign of the Cross
We started by making two lolly sticks into a cross and said our afternoon prayer. The children now know that Father means God, son means Jesus and the Holy Spirit means when God and Jesus went to Heaven. Ask the children to take out their lolly sticks out of their bags and teach you how to make the Sign of the Cross this weekend.
We talked about God planting fruits of vegetables, so we can eat them to stay healthy. We made a fruit and vegetables print in the creative area and set the table in our role play area with healthy foods.
Our mission/ Act is to show God how much we love him by eating more fruit and vegetables to keep our bodies healthy.
I know that God loves me and I am a part of a family

We started the lesson by asking , "I wonder how we can find out more about our families?" The children share their photographs and we agreed that our families are all different and a gift from God. We used pebbles to create pebble pictures of our family. We practised making the sign of the cross and said a prayer to thank God for our wonderful families.
Our mission/ Act is to show God how much we love him by being kind to our families. We acted out being caring at home in our role play area.
I know that God made me.

We started the lesson by asking , "I wonder if you know who made you?" The children listened the the story of The Creation and talked about how God made the world and us. Then, we looked in a mirror to see how God made us all so different and special. We used natural objects to make our portraits. We ended the lesson by making the sign of the cross and learning our prayers.
Our mission/ Act is to show God how much we love him by caring and sharing our toys and keeping our classroom tidy.
