Every six weeks, the children are assessed and grouped according to their phonetic knowledge and reading ability.
Groups are fluid: where a child is excelling a group, they may move up to the next group before the next assessment point. Where a child is struggling in a group, they will have early intervention with 1:1 sessions in order to help them catch up and keep up.
Progression through the programme usually takes until the Christmas of Year 2. However, as children move through the programme at their own pace, they may come off the programme earlier or stay on it until they are a fluent reader.
Children are assessed in reading three times a year. Teachers use this data to inform their future planning and to provide additional support and challenge to children based upon their abilities and needs.
