St Mary's Weekly

Aspiring, nurturing, flourishing;

together shining a light

'One who loves a pure heart and who speaks with grace will have the king for a friend.'(Proverbs 22:11)

Friendship

At the end of the half term, we reflected and evaluated the half term's value, 'friendship'. Building strong and positive relationships with others is something that benefits us all. Below are some reflections from different classes -

Building Others Up

'One of the best things we can do is to say and do things to build my friends up.'

'Saying kind words, encouraging them and helping them to feel good about themselves.'

'Everyone is unique and special and we want to celebrate this by building each other up.'

Listening to Each Other

'To be good friends, we need to listen carefully to what our friends have to say.'

'To listen to each other we can ask questions and show an interest in what is being said.'

'Sometimes our friends might need someone to talk to or I might need to talk to one of my friends.'

Being Kind and Saying Kind Words

'A friend looks after you when you fall over.'

A smile, holding the door for someone or saying something nice can help other people feel good.'

'My friend holds my hand.'

'Saying "please" and "thank you" can make a difference to someone else.'

'Smiling is contagious. When we smile at someone, it can make them smile as well.'

Times Tables Rockstar

Children in Years 3, 4 and 5 use the TTRockstars programme to support their learning of multiplication tables. Times Tables Rock Stars is an award-winning maths learning platform where children can practise their times tables like a rock star! The question-based games automatically adapt to each child’s unique learning needs, helping them to recall their times tables in record speed. Accessible on any device, via the app or browser, children can play anytime, anywhere. Plus, the engaging gamification and motivating rewards mean it is never difficult to entice children to play.

Year 5 - Lottie

ExploRE was a hit among all year groups. The aim of the sessions were to think about ourselves, our world, God. Each class was presented with 15 - 20 different activity stations. Some class were lucky enough to have two sessions to explore these activities or go back to previous ones to delve deeper.  Gary, our new vicar, joined us and spent time getting to know our children.

The children had the chance to reflect on their time and share their thoughts. They were full of excitement and had so many positive comments to share.

Some of the students loved the small paper figures. Others were drawn to the blue thumb, which symbolised how special and unique each of us is. The calm corner was also a favourite, as it provided a peaceful space for reflection and prayer. And let's not forget sitting in a cardboard box and reflecting on what it would be like to live in it.

There were also many new things to learn, with fun and exciting activities to keep the children engaged and interested. One pupil even described the plasma ball as "awesome" - it's safe to say they had a blast!

Daryl

Friday marked a bittersweet day for our school as we bid farewell to Daryl. We celebrated with a staff breakfast. In the afternoon we held a special assembly where each year group presented cards they had made and had the chance to say their goodbyes and wish Daryl well in his future endeavours.

To make the day even more special, we held a fun-filled party at the end of the day. Pupils and teachers alike showed their appreciation for all of the hard work and dedication Daryl has brought to our school. From his engaging lessons to fun in JD club, Daryl has left a lasting impact on each and every one of us.

Farewell, Daryl, you will be missed dearly. We truly hope that you will visit us again soon.

Kalina

We are so proud of Kalina for achieving her Stage 8 Swimming Award! This is a fantastic achievement. Kalina's determination and hard work have shone through with her progress towards this goal.
