About the Project

My name is Everett Louis Ph.D. aka Dr. E. I am a working artist, parent of two primary school kids and full time faculty member and teacher educator in the Kalmanovitz School of Education at Saint Mary's College of California. I have spent over 20 years in academia, working in K-12 California public schools and institutions of higher education. My goal is (and has been) to care for and support new teachers and the students they serve.

Leading up the pandemic, I was heartbroken to see how many young people struggled with depression and poor self image - some even tragically taking their own lives. As we entered a new life with Covid, it became even more challenging to stay connected to resources and support systems. Social media influence grew, and with that, came a flurry of bad news, negative images and unrealistic expectations set on our youth.

I developed this content site with the help of friends and colleagues as a resource for those in need. The goal is to support the youth in aspects of their mental health*, specifically, addressing issues of depression* to help prevent suicide. This site contains vetted content and important local and national contacts.

The message is simple: "Don't Forget Yourself." Know that you are loved and valued as you are.

*What is Mental Health?

"Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood." - MentalHealth.gov

*What is Depression?

"Depression (major depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treaable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problms and can decrease your ability to function at work and at home." - American Psychiatric Association
