Sami Young

Sami is a junior Environmental Science major with a concentration on coastal ecosystems. Following graduation from Saint Mary’s, Sami plans to build her clinical experience to aid in their journey to medical school and the path to becoming an MD. After obtaining their MD, Sami hopes to specialize in neurology or cardiothoracic as a surgeon. They are interested in developing a better understanding of the connections between environmental health and the impacts that occur on the human population, along with exploring how to better equip communities of color with the knowledge and importance of valuing their environment. Sami also hopes to create programs within communities of color to encourage thoughts of obtaining higher levels of education and studying environmental science.

Outside of academics, Sami is an avid reader of many genres including fantasy, romance, and science fiction. Sami also loves working with and teaching others and has spent time during previous summers volunteering as a literature teacher at Breakthrough San Francisco.
