Third Grade, Mrs. Vazquez's class will be performing 'Carol of the Bells' as a virtual choir for our Christmas program this year.

Each student will create a video of them singing along to the recording of Miss Casserly singing their part of the song (while they listen to it over headphones). They only need to record their part of the song, not the entire song. Record the whole page of the song that is their part, not just the individual line they will be featured on.

When you have a satisfactory video that lines up with the recording of Miss Casserly's voice you can upload the video to a google email account, rename it YOUR CHILD'S FIRST AND LAST NAME - PART ____ - CAROL OF THE BELLS and share it with Miss Casserly, then notify her via email that you have shared the video with your child's homeroom, full name , and the name of the file in the email. You can also share the videos via email if you do not have a gmail account but the title of the file and email still needs to contain the same information.

A Simple Checklist of the Steps:

1. Print out the page of lyrics for just the part your child will be singing.

2. Have your child listen to the recording of Miss Casserly singing and practice matching that part. They not sing the whole song, but they will sing the whole page of their part, not just the line they will be featured in that is highlighted on the page.

3. Plug in some headphones to listen to the recording so that you can only hear your child and not Miss Casserly's voice in the video that you create but your child should be singing along to her recording, not just singing alone (this will make it so that they do not line up with the other students and can't be used for the virtual choir layering).

If you do not have any headphones contact Miss Casserly and she will make them available for pickup from the school. If you can not make it to the school then you can turn the volume down of the recording so that it can not be heard in the video you create but your child can still hear it faintly while they sing.

4. Practice, practice, practice! Your child should sing the WHOLE page of their part of the song, not just the line they are featured on and highlighted in the lyric page text. The recording will have the whole song included but you do not record the whole song in your video (that will make it too long to share via email and waste space on the drive collecting this huge project), just the page of music that your child will be featured on. Start recording a few seconds before they come to their part of the song and keep recording for a few seconds after.

5. Find a space that is well lit and preferably with a blank wall behind your child. The less that is in the background of the video the better. Record your video horizontally.

6. Record the video of your child singing the entire page of their part of the song and upload it to a google account via google drive. If you do not have a gmail account that you can use it is free to create a gmail account just for sending this file. If you can send the file via email without using a gmail account that is fine but many people have difficulty sending large files via email without using the share feature through google drive.

7. Rename the file YOUR CHILD'S FIRST AND LAST NAME - PART ____ - CAROL OF THE BELLS

8. Share that file with lcasserly@stmaryofthemills.org and double check that you shared the file to be editable by Miss Casserly, not just viewed.

9. Email Miss Casserly and notify her that it was shared with your child's homeroom, full name , and the name of the file in the email, even if you attached a message to the original share. This will ensure that I get your child's file and they can be included in the Christmas program.

10. Give your kid a ton of praise for being a part of this special Christmas celebration and congratulate them on a job well done!
