Individual Counseling

On an as needed basis, and when requested by student's parents/guardians, school counselors will meet with students to discuss issues affecting their psychosocial and educational wellbeing. School counselors can be a resource for students experiencing changes in their life, including family changes, changing friend dynamics, or other mental health needs. School counselors attempt to provide students with skills for coping with new situations and to assist with creating a good environment for learning.

Group Counseling

In addition to individual counseling, school counselors provide group counseling. In the school setting, counselors act as mediators and moderators of group conversation. One of the common forms of this is 'Lunch Bunch', which involves a group of 3-6 students spending their lunch with a school counselor and taking part in guided conversation to develop good listening skills while they eat.

Guidance Curriculum

If there are particular issues being seen in a classroom, school counselors may ask or be asked to teach social skills in the classroom. Counselors may also want to teach social skills to help tackle general issues, such as bullying, stress, and conflict management.

Please note that all of the counseling services listed above are still available during COVID-19 online learning via Zoom.
