"When I look back, I am impressed by the life-giving power of literature. If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of myself in the world, I would do that again by reading."
-Maya Angelou
My goal as an English Language Arts teacher is to gift you with the life-giving skill of thinking critically about the literature we read and how it shapes our minds and the world around us. Life is more than a test, essay or short answer question. As a teacher, it is my mission to form students to become productive members of our society who spread the love of Christ to everyone they meet and all they do.
A little bit about me...
My name is Emily Oblong. I grew up in Columbus, Ohio in the suburb of Dublin. I attended St. Brigid of Kildare School for eleven years! All the way from preschool three's to eighth grade. It was there that I found my love of reading, Jesus, and school lunch calzones! I am the oldest of four children, I have two younger sisters and a younger brother. Both my sisters are still in college and my brother is in the seventh grade.
I attended Bishop Watterson High School and continued my education by moving to Cincinnati to attend the University of Cincinnati to study Middle School Language Arts and Social Studies. I was involved in Catholic Campus Ministry, served as Philanthropy Officer for my sorority (Gamma Phi Beta!) and worked at the Campus Rec Center as a fitness instructor, where I met my now husband, Kyle!
I have spent the past two years working as a seventh grade ELA teacher at Delhi Middle School on the west side of Cincinnati. I am so so excited to be back on the east side teaching two grade levels at St. Mary's!
Outside of school you can find me completing endless home projects with my husband on the fixer upper house we bought this summer in Anderson, running with Queen City Run Group, or coaching classes at Orange Theory Fitness in Oakley! And of course, at the public library:)
It is truly a privlege to teach your child, I have been praying for them all summer and will continue to pray for them and their families. The school year can be stressful at times, please reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns as we begin an amazing year together!
