      • Math Students will use multiplication to find the area of irregular shapes and they will prepare for the Topic 6 Unit Test.
      • Reading - Students will read Albertasaurus and use the text to draw conclusions and deepen comprehension. Students will also plan and respond to the essential question: What can fossils tell us about the past?
      • Writing - Students will practice writing descriptive narratives using prompts similar to the ASPIRE writing test.
      • Grammar - Students will recognize and use adjectives.
      • Social Studies - Students will describe the difference and similarities between bartering and using money. Students will also be able to describe the relationship between education and getting a job.
      • Religion - Students will be able to describe the main characteristics of the Lenten Season: prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Week of 2/24/2020 - 2/28/2020

      • Math Students will use properties of multiplication to solve area problems.
      • Reading - Students will read Judy Moody Saves the World and analyze the theme of the story to deepen comprehension. Students will also plan and respond to the essential question: How do small actions sometimes solve big problems?
      • Writing - Students will practice writing descriptive narratives using prompts similar to the ASPIRE writing test.
      • Grammar - Students will recognize and use adjectives.
      • Social Studies - Students will describe how pioneers used St. Louis as a gateway for westward expansion.
      • Religion - Students will be able to identify the Introductory Rites in the Mass and be able to describe the Catholic practices of Prayer, Alms Giving and Fasting during Lent.


Week of 2/10/2020 - 2/14/2020


      • Important Announcements:
        1. We will be exchanging Valentines on Thursday, 2/13. Please use the list given in Friday Folder and bring Valentines and an optional decorated mailbox Thursday morning.
        2. Thursday, 2/13 is a half day. Please plan accordingly. Optional Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm.
        3. There is no school on Friday, 2/14/2020 or Monday, 2/17/2020.
        4. Kids Around the World Boards and Speeches are due on Tuesday, 2/18/2020. Students will be graded on their projects in class on this day.
        5. Kids Around the World Fair is at 12:30 pm on 2/20/2020! Please join us in the Activity Center.
      • Math Students will use standard units of measurement to solve for area.
      • Reading Students will rehearse their Kids Around the World plays to read with both accuracy and fluency. Students will also present their oral presentations about a country of their choice that they have researched, written about and created a visual board about for their Kids Around the World project.


Week of 2/3/2020-2/7/2020

      • Math Students will use the properties and strategies of multiplication and division to solve area problems.
      • Reading Students will rehearse their Kids Around the World plays to read with accuracy and fluency. Students will also read a fiction story from Reading A-Z and participate in a group discussion and comprehension test.
      • Writing Students will complete a plan, rough draft and final draft of a second informative writing about an animal of their choice.
      • Religion Students will be able to explain the Sacrament of the Eucharist and how it is the centerpiece of the Mass.

      • Reading Students will read the trickster tale, Tops and Bottoms and they will be able to answer questions about theme to deepen comprehension. Students will also be able to write reader's response to the essential question: What lessons do the characters learn in this trickster tale?

  • Writing - Students will write informative caption paragraphs for their Kids Around the World projects.
  • Grammar - Students will recognize and use irregular verbs correctly in a variety of sentences.
  • Science - Students will: observe pushes and pulls. They will observe and describe how friction causes changes in motion.
  • Religion - Students will recognize Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick as Sacraments of Healing. Students will act on their faith by sharing empathy and get well messages with people who are ill in St. Mary Parish.

Week at a Glance 1/7/19-1/11/19

  • Math - Students will review points, line segments and define/identify rays and lines; define, identify and draw polygons, parallel and intersecting line segments, lines and rays; use angles to record turns and rotations; define, identify and explore the characteristics of the various types of triangles.
  • Reading - Students will read the Cherokee legend, Yonder Mountain; practice comparing and contrasting content in the story to deepen comprehension; form a written response to the essential question , "What qualities do good leaders possess?".
  • Writing - Students will select a country to research for their Kids Around the World presentation and research their chosen country at school and at home.
  • Grammar - Students will identify and correctly use main/helping verbs.
  • Social Studies - Students will research on the computer and write brief summaries of famous explorers from the Age of Exploration in order to respond to an essential question.
  • Religion - Students will recognize the way the Church celebrates the sacraments and identify the Sacraments of Christian Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist)

  • Reading - Students will: read Scholastic News magazines for new content, improved reading comprehension and recognition of text features.
  • Writing - Students will: write an acrostic poem about New Year's resolutions.
  • Social Studies - Students will: research on the computer and write brief summaries of famous explorers from the Age of Exploration.
  • Religion - Students will: recognize Epiphany as the last feast day of the Christmas season and they will be able to visually and in written form explain the significance of the feast day.
