7th and 8th ELAR and 6th Writing
Reading:
all students should have an Independent book every day and read for 30 minutes at home every day.
We will be doing class novels throughout the year
7th will be reading The Giver by Lois Lowry, And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, Hoot by Karl Hiaasen, and Animal Farm by George Orwell.
8th will read The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and Night by Elie Wiesel.
Students will read poetry and non-fiction connected to each novel.
Students will also write in response to literature throughout the year.
Vocabulary and grammar
Writing:
6th grade will work through the writing process for every piece, starting with paragraphs, and developing our skills as the year goes on. Some writing projects will include Arguments, Informative/Explanatory texts, Narratives, and Research to build and present knowledge. We will also be working on several cross curricular units throughout the year.
