7th and 8th ELAR and 6th Writing

Reading:

  • all students should have an Independent book every day and read for 30 minutes at home every day.

  • We will be doing class novels throughout the year

    • 7th will be reading The Giver by Lois Lowry, And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, Hoot by Karl Hiaasen, and Animal Farm by George Orwell.

    • 8th will read The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and Night by Elie Wiesel.

    • Students will read poetry and non-fiction connected to each novel.

    • Students will also write in response to literature throughout the year.

    • Vocabulary and grammar

Writing:

  • 6th grade will work through the writing process for every piece, starting with paragraphs, and developing our skills as the year goes on. Some writing projects will include Arguments, Informative/Explanatory texts, Narratives, and Research to build and present knowledge. We will also be working on several cross curricular units throughout the year.
