A Brief History Of Our School:

The 20's

The school was built in 1928 in Caerphilly. It was originally a boys grammar school, meaning that it was for 'more advanced' students.

The 30's

To be completely honest, during the early 30's, not a lot happened. There was a heavy emphasis on sports and competition, and that is about it. However, war broke out in Europe in 1939, of course, and many of the boys from St Martins enlisted.

The 40's

After the war ended in 1945, the school made efforts to collect a list of the names of the students who died in the war. This was successful, and a list of 51 names were collected. They began designing a war memorial to commemorate those who were killed.  There is more information on the memorial on the memorial page. In 1944 the 11+ test was introduced, which would determine what type of school you would go to; grammar, comprehensive or technical.

The 50's

Sadly, not a great deal happened during this decade, besides maybe the release of Singin' In The Rain, though the relevance of that is somewhat questionable. The school made a bulletin board, which details the day to day news. However, none of it is particularly notable. You may be interested to know (I use 'may be' loosely) that the community began to raise money for a rugby pitch.

Now:

During the 1970s, the new building was built, causing us to now realise how strange it is that we refer to it as the new building, despite it being about fifty years old. The school eventually became a mixed gender comprehensive school, instead of a boys grammar. When COVID-19 hit in 2020, many changes occurred in the school.
