Fridays with

Our Lady

Would you like to learn more about Mary?

Prior to the 33-day consecration preparation which begins November 5th, we will host Fridays with Our Lady. This is a series of eight talks and presentations that summarize Our Lady of Fatima, the 3 secrets, and the First Saturday Devotion. Each Friday presentation will focus on a particular Marian apparition, some that led up to the Fatima apparition and others that have followed it. Come to one or come to all!

See the list of dates and learn more about each below.

July 16 - Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

following 9:00 am Mass and Rosary in the PLC social hall

This is also the Feast Day of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, please join us for Mass.

Available at stmarkrc.org under Mary Corner.

We begin on this feast day as Mount Carmel has a long-standing biblical history. In the OT it is where Elijah had a showdown with the prophets of Baal. In the 12th century, Carmelites built a church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin and established an Order which spread to Europe.

St. Simon Stock called upon Mary in the midst of great persecutions and she handed him the brown scapular as a "sign of salvation", a "safeguard in danger", and a "special pledge of peace and protection until the end of time".

In her last appearance to the children at Fatima, Mary appeared as Our Lady of Carmel holding the infant, Jesus.

July 30 - Our Lady of Lourdes

following 9:00 am Mass and Rosary in the PLC social hall

It was here at Lourdes, in 1858, that the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous eighteen times. The priest told Bernadette to ask the lady her name. Mary responded, "I am the Immaculate Conception".

As we celebrate our parish-wide Marian Consecration on December 8th, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, this is a fitting time to learn more about the special message given to us via Saint Bernadette.

August 13 - Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

following 9:00 am Mass and Rosary in the PLC social hall

This title was given to Our Lady when she appeared to a Sister of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in Paris.

Sr. Catherine Laboure on July 18, 1830 was awakened by a young child calling her to come to the Chapel where the Blessed Mother was waiting for her. Sister Catherine ran to Mary, rested her hands on the knees of Mary and listened for hours as she was instructed about how to act in times of trials she would encounter.

On November 27, 1830, she was given instructions for the Miraculous Medal which included the prayer, "Oh Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee."

August 27 - Our Lady of La Salette

following 9:00 am Mass and Rosary in the PLC social hall

On September 19, 1846 in the parish of La Salette in the French Alps, Mary appeared to two young children, Melanie age 14, and Maximin age 11.

They noticed a bright light "much brighter than the sun", and saw in the light a beautiful lady seated with her head in her hands. They could see tears streaming down her face.

She told the children that unless people repented, the crops would fail and their would be famine. She explained that she was holding back the hand of her Son with her prayers for people who worked on Sundays, did not attend Mass, and used God's name in vain. She asked the children to pray at least an Our Father and Hail Mary at night and in the morning.

September 10 - Our Lady of Pontmain

known as Our Lady of Hope

following 9:00 am Mass and Rosary in the PLC social hall

On January 17, 1871 during the Franco-Prussian War, Mary appeared to four children on the playground of a convent school in Pontmain, France. The first child to see her tried to point the attention of the adults around him in the direction of Our Lady, none reported seeing her. However, the other three children around him all reported seeing her, leading a nun nearby to guide everyone in prayer.

Our Lady spoke no words to the children, but at her feet there was a banner that read, “But pray my children. God will hear you in a short time. My Son allows Himself to be moved by compassion.”

On the same day, it is said that the Prussians halted their advance into France when the Prussian Commander reported that “invisible Madonna barring the way.” She is also known as Our Lady of Hope.

October 1 - Our Lady of Knock

following 9:00 am Mass and Rosary in the PLC social hall

This apparition appeared in Knock Ireland on August 21, 1879. As the housekeeper walked past the chapel, she noticed a bright light shadowing what looked like three figures she guessed were new statues that the priest had purchased.

Upon closer examination, she saw against the gable wall actual people: Mary, St. Joseph, and St. John.

She ran to tell others and 18 people ranging from six to seventy years old came and witnessed the vision. Mary was in the center wearing white with a large crown on her head.

Many cures have been reported here and the church noted the apparition as probably in 1971.

She is also know as Our Lady of Silence.

October 15 - Our Lady of Fatima

On May 13, 1917, Mary appeared to three shepherd children in the Cova de Iria in Fatima Portugal. A series of six apparitions spanning from May 13 - October 13, 2017 to Jacinta Marto, Francisco Marto, and Lucia de Santos and witnessed by 1000's of people, make this one of the most profound and pertinent message to The Church in modern times.

Mary's message to the faithful regarding the Rosary and the First Saturday devotion originate here. The Great Secret of Fatima is also still pondered and explored. The Miracle of the Sun which took place on October 13,1917 is considered the most stupendous public miracle since the parting of the Red Sea.

October 29 - Our Lady of Akita

following 9:00 am Mass and Rosary in the PLC social hall

With the apparitions of Our Lady of Atika, unlike the other apparitions, Sister Agnes Sasagawa heard the Blessed Virgin’s messages through a wooden statue and not a traditional appearance. Sister Agnes had already been experiencing signs of supernatural works before the apparitions, seeing a bright light emerging from the tabernacle at her convent, and receiving the stigmata in 1973.

Much like the story of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Sister Agnes was led to the statue by what is believed to be her guardian angel, and on three different occasions, the statue spoke to her with messages similar to Our Lady of Fatima to the three children.

Along with these messages, countless miracles have been attributed to Our Lady of Akita, such as the healing of Sister Agnes’s hearing, the sisters finding the statue bleeding from a wound in her hand, and the statue crying 101 times over the course of eight years.
