Your child may take online comprehension quizzes on books they read for fun. Please go to www.arbookfind.com to find the quiz numbers of the books they read. It makes it much easier for them to find their choice.
is for Behavior.
We are pleased to offer a positive behavior management system. Students will be rewarded with Mustang Merits and entered into drawings when they are caught performing a kindness to another one of God's children.
is for Confession.
April 18, 2024 at 6pm prepared students will attend their First Reconciliation.
is for Daily Reading Workshop (known as Daily 5).
During our reading block, students may be expected to read to themselves or a partner, listen to stories, practice word work, or be involved in small group lessons with the teacher.
is for the Eucharist.
On May 4, prepared students will receive Jesus for the first time! There are two masses that day: 10am (last name M-Z) or Noon (last name A-L). Please make sure you attend the correct session.
is for Food Allergies.
Our classroom may be peanut and tree nut free. If so, please do not send in snacks that contain any nuts. Students with severe food allergies need to have emergency information on file with the office. Please notify your child's teacher if you've left any medications in the office.
is for Good Fit Books.
Please help your child choose good fit books. We do not want them reading books that are too easy or too difficult for them to read independently. Once your child has their reading level, go to Scholastic Book Wizard to help you find books that are just right!
is for Healthy Snacks.
Snack time is a great opportunity to refuel our brains. Please refer to the Snack tab for more information.
is for iPads.
Technology is a great tool for 21st century learners. We are a 1:1 Classroom and our students are very excited to use technology!
is for Joining PTO.
Parents are a huge reason our school is so successful. Please attend PTO meetings usually held on the third Thursday of each month. This is a great place to network with other STL parents, hear vital school information, support your child's learning, and help you get involved.
s for Kindness.
As a Catholic School, we believe in showing our love for God by loving others. Students are expected to act respectfully and kindly toward fellow classmates, parents, and school staff.
is for Library.
Each week your child will attend library. Please make sure that they return their books on time so they do not receive fines. Go to Online Library Search to search our library for good fit books.
is for Mass.
Each week (usually on Wednesdays), we celebrate mass at 9:15am.
is for Newsletter.
Thursdays or Fridays we will post a newsletter about the upcoming week on this website. Print a copy so you can keep important dates and information handy.
is for Organization.
This is a great time for your child to learn organizational skills that will carry them through life. Each night your child will bring home their blue work folder or FROG Binder that usually includes the homework for that day. Please check it over after they have completed it. Feel free to write a note to me if they are experiencing difficulty after you've helped them.
is for Protecting God's Children & Background Checks.
Every school volunteer is required to have taken a class called Protecting God's Children & have a background check on file with our Parish Office. Contact St. Lawrence's Parish Office for locations/dates/times if you are interested in taking the class.
is for Quenching Your Thirst.
Students may bring a water bottle to school. Please don't freeze it; the condensation is bothersome. To prevent accidents, keep the water bottle separate from the backpack.
is for Reading.
Second graders are encouraged to read a minimum of 20 minutes a night for homework. As the saying goes, "Practice Makes Progress!" Please see letter G (located above) for a suggestion on how to help your child choose good fit books.
is for Scholastic Reading Clubs.
We encourage parents to order books online at Scholastic Reading Clubs. If you choose to order from the paper forms sent home, we ask that you send in ONE check made payable to Scholastic Reading Clubs. You do not need separate checks for each order form. They do not accept cash.
is for Transportation Changes.
Please send me a note if your child is not taking their usual route home on a particular day. This includes not only buses, but if your child is going home with someone other than yourself. Verbal messages from your child will not be accepted.
is for Uniforms.
STL students are required to wear uniforms. Please refer to The Handbook for specifics.
is for Volunteers.
During the year there are many opportunities for you to get involved. Class parties, field trips, & school-wide events are all wonderful places for you to start! Let our room parent know the areas in which you would be willing to volunteer. Classroom volunteering does not count toward your 10 mandatory volunteer hours.
is for Writer's Workshop.
During the week, students will work on targeted skills to help improve their writing skills. Try to find different ways for your child to write at home, such as writing letters to grandparents or journaling.
is for xtramath.
Xtramath is a program designed to help increase the instant recall of math facts. Students who register will start with addition and work their way through the other three operations: subtraction, multiplication, and division. As your child masters each operation they will receive a certificate of completion. You may visit the site at http://xtramath.org/.

It is imperative that your child gets a good night's rest every night. A child who hasn't gotten enough rest will spend their day listless & unable to focus on that day's lessons.
