Piece #1

Starting Bid: 10 Dollars

I wanted this bowl to serve as a reminder of who God says we are. When I sit down and eat throughout my day, it often gives me a time to slow down and think and often makes me reflect on my flaws. I also can view food as something that makes me look bad, but in reality it provides me with the fuel to be who God created me to be. The words around the rim are, “worthy, chosen, enough, known, meaningful, called, important, needed, kind, unique, beautiful, and brave.” These words remind me that regardless of my flaws, I am so loved and that food isn’t harmful, but helpful in living out these attributes.

Piece #2

Starting Bid: 15 Dollars

I made this platter by engraving a flower drawing into a slab. I then used a knife to cut out the outline of the flower and used my finger to smooth out the edges. I attached three bases using a coil method. I wanted the base to be really big, so that they almost take up the entire size of the platter. I also wanted the platter to be a flat surface, so I dried it upside down with the feet of the platter facing up. I thought it would be a great surface for cheese and crackers and reminds me of something my mom would use.

Piece #3

Starting bid: 15 Dollars

For this platter I wanted to do a more simple design by using an intaglio technique. I did this by carving a floral pattern then using white under glaze to fill the caved areas then wiping the excess. I also wanted to emphasize the center by attaching a flower form to contrast with the indentation of the rest of the pattern.

Piece #4

Starting Bid: 10 dollars

This piece is based off the wildflowers that grew in my yard as a kid. We never had a vase small enough for them so I wanted to make a smaller vase for wildflowers. I tried to make it a little wonky on purpose because the wildflowers we're never perfect but I always thought they were so beautiful.

Piece #5

Starting Bid: 15 Dollars

I really liked the idea of the community aspect of platters, but I also really wanted to make some cylindrical forms. I was also inspired by my mom. She has a lot of dishes with sections that she uses for vegetables, etc., and she has always emphasized the importance of making people feel welcome. The colors and patterns give the piece a warm, whimsical feel while the height difference allows all the cylinders to be viewed at once from most angles.

Piece #6

Starting Bid: 15 dollars

For this platter I wanted to create a design that had more elements. The inspiration comes from hiking in the woods and seeing mushrooms on the outside of an oak tree. The mushrooms are under glazed and the whole piece is dipped in an a glaze with pieces of ash. I thought the final glaze tied in the inspiration of nature to the platter.

Piece #7

Starting Bid: 15 Dollars

For my platter I got inspiration from my nana's roll platter that she has had for 30 years. There is only love surrounding that platter because that is how my family gathers. So my piece came from the love around food my family is to share with someone and hopefully bring the same type of joy and love.

Piece #8

Starting Bid: 10 dollars

When I thought about open arms, I thought about how inclusive they are with who their clients are and they put a lot of care to the meals they provide. I really thought about how I wanted to have these hands reaching to one another and almost as if they we're hugging the vase because it's nice to get a hug every once in a while.

Piece #9

Starting Bid: 10 dollars

When it came to making this vase I thought about how plants and flowers are always present in our memories, and they are so symbolic that we can have different meanings behind them. They are a great way to connect memories from the past to the present.

Piece #10

Starting Bid: 15 Dollars

Being a fishmonger, I have been given the opportunity to learn both the culinary and biological sides to seafood. I get to learn, prep, teach, and supply new foods and species to midwesterners. For my first piece I made a platter in the shape of a steelhead trout. Steelhead is a part of the salmonids Family, it’s very similar to salmon apart from its sweeter, nuttier flavor— just as the platter is just a platter apart from it also being a fish!

Piece #11

Starting Bid: 5 Dollars

Sometimes you don’t want to eat off a fish, which is why my second piece is a large mid-depth bowl. The bottom of this bowl has a footing in the shape of a flower with petals representing the meals you will share with this dish.

Piece #12

Starting Bid: 10 Dollars

What inspired me to make my platter was one-line drawings. One-line drawings are so elegant yet simple I wanted to recreate that in my own way. The flowers represent spring and warmth as we dive into the coldness of winter. Nourishing the mind, body and soul with positivity like the mission of open arms.

Piece #13

Starting Bid: 10 Dollars

This is a red vase with dark green almost black drips on the top. That same color in the inside and around the foot of the vase. With a clear coat to tie it all in. I took inspiration from Halloween, the dark green/ black and the red making it spooky. I am a baker who loves cake drips as designs on cakes, so I brought that element into this piece. For the shape, I wanted it to be big, not too big, just a nice size. For the foot of the piece, it was important to me that it would stand out a little. I also added some circular designs to add to that dimension of the piece. I wanted this piece to be simple but unique but mostly functional.

Piece #14

Starting Bid: 20 Dollars

Platters immediately remind me of amazing food. They always hold some of the best meals along with the best memories around the table. So that's what I wanted to capture in my platter here. The beauty of the platter will help you to make many amazing memories!

Piece #15

Starting Bid: 15 dollars

For this platter, I wanted to emphasize the importance of having strong, vibrant connections within our community. In order to create and maintain sustainable connections, we must have a strong base. The feet of the platter are glazed a bright red to showcase the strength of interpersonal relationships, that may blossom into a stronger community. The black dots revolving around the entire piece represent the individuals that make up our community. It is my hope that this platter is filled with delicious snacks/treats, and a reminder of how we are all connected.

Piece #17

Starting Bid: 10 dollars

For the second bowl, I decided to stick to the same concept of having a coil bottom of a design, which in this case, are hands. Regarding back to the Empty Bowls Project, I wanted to incorporate designs of help, love, and care from all over the world. Hands are a big part in illustrating unity and in coming together to work towards a problem. For the underglaze, I wanted to use a variety of colors to show the differences that we have yet the similarities that we share. I also painted some handprints on the inside of the bowls to display more of the hands from the bottom to the top so it can be seen as an awareness towards food insecurity.

Piece #18

Starting Bid: 10 dollars

I would have to say this vase is the hardest to make out of all the projects I’ve done so far. It was difficult to work with a bigger coil and handling with a heavy vase after the coil was attached. I had a hard time securing the snake coil around the vase because of how long it was while trying to maintain the evenness throughout. The idea behind this snake coil comes from the symbols of their strength and transformation. When making this vase for the Empty Bowls Project, I’ve thought a lot about embodying significant meanings for my designs. This piece definitely speaks out to me for the deeper meaning of fighting in health and wellbeing and to bring awareness of food insecurity.

The missing piece here is no longer available because it was chosen for another charity event at school.

Piece #19

Starting Bid: 15 dollars

For this piece, I was inspired by the beautiful stained glass windows I grew up seeing in church. It was an intricate process, almost like a paint-by-number, and then outlined with black underglaze.

Piece #20

Starting Bid: 10 dollars

Visiting the Open Arms of Minnesota is the inspiration behind this piece. At the core of their mission is food and love. Fresh vegetables and ingredients are what the organization uses to create their nutritious meals for the recipients. Underglaze was used to paint the vegetables and a white and clear glaze was used to seal the colors.

Piece #21

This piece was selected for another charity event at St. Kate's and is no longer available.

Participating in Facilitating Empty Bowls making events and glazing events are what inspired me to create this piece. The vibrant colors evoke vibrant feelings. I used different underglazes and a clear glaze to seal the colors.
